Who needs Orthodontics Treatment?

Orthodontics is a specialist field of dentistry focusing on the form, function, and aesthetics of the jaws and teeth.

Crooked or crowded teeth may cause uneven wear of tooth surfaces or jaw problems and are also difficult to clean. All these attributes make them prone to tooth decay and gum diseases. Such people should go for an orthodontic treatment(Straightening of teeth). Crooked teeth or large gaps between teeth makes a smile unpleasant, which in turns leads to loss of self-confidence.

At what age can Orthodontic Treatment start?

It is most common during childhood and adolescence (from age eight and upwards) it can be started even before all permanent teeth erupt as this time dentist can modify growth of the jaws by various internationally accepted methods. The majority of orthodontics is carried out on teenagers, but increasing numbers of adults are opting for orthodontic treatment too.
There was a myth that this treatment could not be done after a certain age. This is a fallacy today, age is not a reason to avoid orthodontic treatment. The only pre-requisite is that the bone should be healthy

How long does the treatment take?

It varies from 12 to 24 months advance orthodontic treatment provides tooth colored, brackets and lingual braces (i.e. placed on back side of your teeth). These modern bracket systems are less visible to other people and the results can be stunning.
Achieving a healthy beautiful smile is a team effort, not only involving you, your family, and your orthodontist, but also your dentist, and other dental specialists as needed.
So, at BDC our wonderful team looks forward to meeting you and providing you with straight teeth and a beautiful smile.

Different Types of Braces

Standard stainless steel straight wire brackets
The ‘Straight-wire’ appliance is the most commonly used form of fixed appliance today. The bracket for each tooth has a unique prescription built into it which allows very precise movements to be achieved relatively simply so that each tooth can be accurately moved into its correct position. Colored ligatures may be used to hold the wires in place. These are considered by many as a fashion accessory.

Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are made of composite materials. Ceramic braces utilize less noticeable brackets for patients concerned about the appearance of their smile. Ceramic braces are translucent, so they blend in with your natural tooth color

Self Ligating Braces
Smart Clip braces are self-ligating appliances that hold archwires in place without rubber bands. Smart clip produces a less painful and rapid tooth movement requiring less chairside time and fewer appointments

Clarity Self Ligating Braces
Clarity braces are a clear alternative to metal braces giving you virtually invisible orthodontic treatment with a visible difference. This combined the latest in technology and fashion by designing innovative braces that will blend in with teeth, help teeth move faster, and make braces easier to clean while eliminating the less desirable appearance and hygiene issues of ordinary braces

Lingual brackets
Special brackets are attached to the inside of the teeth which is not noticeable to others. Patients often find this type of appliance more acceptable.

Micro Screws

The use of Micro-Screws in Orthodontic Anchorage is becoming more and more frequent in both Vestibular and Lingual techniques.

Functional Appliance – Twin Block
Twin Blocks will help to straighten your teeth and encourage your jaw to grow. Twin Blocks are jaw aligning appliances (braces)

Aligners

Aligners are the alternative to the traditions wired braces but are effective for minor spacing or crowding teeth Issue of patients. Aligners are sequence of clear & removable trays fit over teeth for straightening & are worn by the patients for the specific period of time. Aligners are removable so, patients can comfortably remove them for eating, brushing and flossing.
